Buses

Auxes/Mixes/Bus

An Aux (sometimes called a Mix or Bus) is a mix outputting from the audio console. Any input channel on a console can be sent to an Aux.

Generally, each input channel on a console has four parameters when sending its signal to an Aux:

  • On: Allows the input channel to send to the selected Aux.
  • Level: Adjusts the level of the input channel that is being sent to the selected Aux.
  • Pre: When selected, the level of the input channel that is sent to the Aux is not dependent on the level of the input channel’s fader (or Pre-fade). If Pre is not selected, the level of the input channel is dependent on the level of the input channel’s fader (also called Post-Fade).
  • Pan: If an Aux is linked with another Aux to make a stereo-paired Aux, pan allows the input channel to be sent to either the left or right side of the stereo.

Matrix

A Matrix is similar to an aux, except that Matrices can accept Auxes or the Mains as an input. Some consoles also allow for input channels to be sent to matrices. Matrices are often used to send a house mix from the Mains

MAINS

Mains is an Aux that is the main output of the audio console.n
